Executive Development Institute

Building the leaders who create lasting value.

Exceptional leadership is one of the most powerful levers of value creation in private equity. The Executive Development Institute develops that leadership across the Shore portfolio, from the students exploring the field to the CEOs guiding companies through the hold.

One institute. A pipeline of leaders at every stage.

Shore-backed companies operate within a distinctive model, shaped by the realities of the lower-middle market and Shore's microcap playbook. The Executive Development Institute exists to prepare people to lead within that model with clarity and confidence.

Our programs span the full arc of a leadership career. We introduce students to private equity, accelerate high-potential talent into the C-suite, equip new executives to lead from day one, and support sitting CEOs through the demands of scaling a business. Every program is built for the same reason. Better leaders build better companies, and better companies drive stronger outcomes at exit.

Developing Portfolio Leadership

CEO, LID & N-1 Onboarding

A multi-day immersion in Chicago for new portfolio company leaders. CEOs, Lead Independent Directors, and their direct reports learn the Shore operating ecosystem together. The program covers the Shore Business System, M&A playbooks, talent development tools, and the governance expectations of a private equity-backed board.

Purpose

To ensure every new Shore executive enters the portfolio with a strong foundation, a shared understanding of how Shore partners with its companies, and the tools needed to lead effectively from day one.

Program Goals

  • Lead with clarity and confidence. Understand how Shore wins and what great leadership looks like inside the portfolio.
  • Internalize the Shore Business System. Turn strategy, structure, and resources into repeatable execution.
  • Develop a vision of excellence. Set a high standard and translate it into role-specific execution.
Onboarding as a Value-Creation Lever

Protect the value-creation plan from day one. Leadership transitions are among the highest-risk events in a hold. By preparing every incoming leader to execute the Shore playbook immediately, onboarding shortens the ramp to full productivity and protects the growth trajectory underwritten.

Executive Coaching

A confidential, opt-in coaching experience for portfolio company CEOs. Each CEO is paired with an experienced coach who understands private equity-backed leadership and the realities of building in the microcap environment. The focus is the CEO's development as a leader, not operational consulting. Each engagement is a six-month, Shore-funded commitment with monthly 60 to 90 minute sessions, plus availability for time-sensitive challenges. CEOs select their coach from a curated network to ensure fit and chemistry.

Purpose

To provide Shore CEOs with a trusted, confidential thought partner whose expertise helps them lead with greater clarity, confidence, and effectiveness across the full arc of the hold period.

Program Goals

  • Strengthen judgment. Improve the quality of CEO decision-making.
  • Address predictable challenges. Meet CEOs before the common failure patterns take hold.
  • Generate stronger outcomes. Raise leadership performance across the portfolio.
Coaching as a Value-Creation Lever

Reduce CEO-failure risk, the most expensive value-destruction event. A failed CEO transition can reset a value-creation plan by 12 to 24 months and compress the exit. Coaching sustains EBITDA momentum through the hold and preserves the option value of a strong, on-time exit.

Executive Coach Network

CEOs choose from a curated network of coaches. Review the full bios in the coach Bio Book.

Peak Performer Program

Shore's most exclusive leadership investment, offered to fewer than 1% of portfolio employees. Led by Professor Boris Groysberg of Harvard Business School, the curriculum is built around HBS hall-of-fame case studies delivered both virtually and in person. Breakout groups, modeled on the Young Presidents' Organization and HBS approach, create deep networking and collaboration among top performers across the portfolio.

Purpose

To recognize and invest in the highest-potential leaders across the Shore portfolio through a world-class learning experience that deepens their capacity to lead themselves, their teams, and their organizations.

Program Goals

  • Reward high potential. Provide a Harvard-caliber development experience to standout leaders.
  • Develop all three dimensions. Strengthen leading self, leading teams, and leading organizations.
  • Build a high-trust network. Connect top performers across the portfolio for lasting peer learning.
Recognition as a Value-Creation Lever

Top-performing leaders drive returns at a magnitude that outpaces their peers. Investing in them raises the ceiling on organizational performance and compounds outcomes across the whole portfolio.
